The Mood Right Now
There is a serious financial anxiety actively spreading across Nigeria right now. Different fears at different stages, all coming together to sit on you at once, in a country where finding money is difficult, keeping or saving it is really hard, and to grow or invest it is like madness, with serious mental ache, hurting the body. On top of that, the endless ads, the different financial gurus and advisors, always pushing this course and that steps, flooding the market with more confusion, sustained anxiety, and the fear of being broke.
A continuous state of restlessness, suspicion, and constant comparison has finished the intellectual space of many Nigerians. It has created a surge of modern insecurity, where people feel they have to show what they have, in order to feel that they truly have it. As if the showing is the proof that gives them permission to be satisfied. Which leaves the people who are genuinely struggling, feeling more left behind. And it raises the stress level of everyone.
Then there are the lowkey opportunists. The ones who profit from your worry, not your wins. They sell courses, systems, and shortcuts that rarely deliver, because the selling is the business, not the solution itself. The noise gets louder. And common sense gets smaller.
When the Feeling Becomes Physical
Fear this loud, for this long, is no longer just a feeling. It is physical. Your heart starts running faster than it should, your blood pressure sitting high, slowly damaging vessels. Your sleep shortens, because the mind will not rest, as if you are a thief waiting to be caught. Your appetite shuts down or pushes up, neither one serving you. And a fatigue that did not come from effort shows up, a tiredness that does not leave, even with rest. Bad decisions become the norm. You start reacting to money instead of handling it, which deepens the fear, which dips the body.
To make matters worse, anxiety seeps into other things. It does not stay only in finance. It leaks into parenting, marriage, health, decisions, sleep, everything. And it starts showing up in the body. Ulcers quietly developing. Fertility silently struggling. Problems that cost money to treat, adding to the very pressure that caused them.
The Part Nobody Is Saying
Fear sustains itself when the mind is idle. It only loosens when the person is doing something real, something useful, something that moves them forward.
Which is why what you need is something practical, usable, and honest. Not faceless YouTube ads. Not random gurus. Real steps you can take today to feel less afraid and more capable.
Which brings us to what actually helps. The so-called little things that are never small. Skills you can use. Plans you can start today. Small routines that give your mind room to breathe. One practical step that moves you from frozen to hopeful. Not grand plans, just motion.
If you are still here, you have to understand something. The feeling is real. The threat is not. This is not the end. There is a first move you can make, a first step toward anything. It might be that you have to go back to the planning board. Weigh your options. Go get a skill. Change lanes. Even start over. Finding a way is the character to have.
Start With Your Body
Start with your body. Start winning there first. Get some of your sleep back, because sleep alone quiets a lot of the fear. Move your body a little more, because movement quiets anxiety faster than planning does. Eat like someone who expects to live. Get stronger, physically and mentally, while you figure out what your next real financial move might be.
It will also help to have your own doctor, your own care team, quietly on standby. Actively working with you to restore your sleep, return your weight and your appetite to where they should be, and understand what your body actually needs. A team keeping you whole while you fight the rest.
The fear is real. But the threat is not. Every one of us needs our body to make money, don't we?
